Most asked

Can it help freeze money in the golden hour?

No. Freezing in the golden hour is the 1930 helpline and bank route. This service is for the investigation that follows: it finds the mule accounts, the layering and the network behind the complaint, and the statements to call for next.

Do we need a tender or a GeM purchase?

No. NFSU provides the service government to government. Units sanction a fee for each case, as they would for any expert opinion.

How do I send a case?

Email the statements from your registered official email ID to [NFSU submission email ID], with the case reference in the subject line.

How do we know what a case will cost?

Count the bank accounts in the case. The fee follows directly from the schedule, so you know the cost before you send.

Where is my case data kept?

Only in NFSU’s own data centre, in India, under NFSU’s physical custody and security governance. It is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Can I annex the report to the charge sheet?

Yes. The dossier is prepared to assist the charge sheet, and every figure is traceable to the bank statement it came from.

About the service 5

What is the Zero Touch Bank Statement Forensic Service?

A forensic examination of bank statements by NFSU. An officer emails the statements and receives a money-trail report, prepared for court, within two working days for 95% of cases, counted from receipt of the complete set of statements.

Who provides the service?

The National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is a joint initiative of NFSU and iAcuity Fintech, whose platform performs the automated analysis.

What does “zero touch” mean?

No analyst reads, keys in or handles the statements or the reports. The process is automated from intake to report. Technical access is restricted, read-only and logged.

Is the analysis proven?

The analysis platform is in use with central and State law-enforcement agencies, and its reports have supported submissions before courts. The methodology is scientifically reviewed and validated by NFSU.

We already have an FSL and a cyber lab. Why this?

Labs examine devices and digital media. This service reads bank statements in volume, which is work most labs are not set up for. It takes that load off them rather than competing with them.

Scope 4

Which cases is it for?

Every kind of crime that leaves a money trail in bank statements: cyber fraud and mule networks; Ponzi and deposit schemes; bank and loan fraud; corporate fund diversion; terror funding and hawala; drug trafficking; extortion and organised crime; cheating and breach of trust.

Is it only for cyber crime?

No. It serves every wing whose cases turn on money: Cyber Crime, Economic Offences, Crime Branch–CID, Special Task Force, Anti-Terrorism Squad, Intelligence, Anti-Narcotics and district teams.

Can it help freeze money in the golden hour?

No. Freezing in the golden hour is the 1930 helpline and bank route. This service is for the investigation that follows: it finds the mule accounts, the layering and the network behind the complaint, and the statements to call for next.

Our cases are complex. Can an automated examination handle them?

It finds layering, circular movement, mule accounts and the suspect network, in cases of over 100 accounts. Every result comes to you first as a draft to check against your own findings.

Sending a case 7

How do I send a case?

Email the statements from your registered official email ID to [NFSU submission email ID], with the case reference in the subject line.

Can I send statements from a personal email ID or over WhatsApp?

No. Statements are accepted only from the official email IDs registered for your unit. Anything else receives a “sender not registered” reply and is not processed.

Is there a limit on attachment size?

[Mailbox attachment limit to be confirmed.] If the files are large, send them in more than one email, quoting the same case reference.

How many accounts can one case have?

Any number. The fee depends on the number of accounts in the case: up to 10, 11 to 25, 26 to 50, 51 to 100, and above 100 on request.

Can I add more statements to a case later?

Yes. More statements can be added to the same case. The fee is re-counted on the total number of accounts and moves up by band if a band is crossed.

How do I get electronic statements from a bank?

Use the model request letter. Ask for Excel or CSV files, or PDFs generated by the bank, for the full period, with date, narration, reference number, debit, credit and balance.

How do I know NFSU has received my statements?

You receive an automatic acknowledgement listing the files accepted, any files not accepted, the number of accounts identified, the fee and the date by which the draft will reach you. If the account count is not right, reply before the time given and it will be corrected before processing.

Formats 3

Which statement formats are accepted?

PDF statements generated by the bank, Excel or CSV files, in any bank’s layout.

Can I send scanned or photographed statements?

No. Scanned or photographed copies cannot be processed. Ask the bank for electronic statements using the model request letter.

What about password-protected PDFs?

Accepted. Type the password in the body of the case email.

Reports 8

What will I receive?

The money trail, with red flags graded by severity, mule accounts, layering, circular movement, exit channels, the suspect network and whose statements to call for next. It comes in seven reports, every figure traced to the statement:

  • Suspect 360 Degree Report. Each suspect account at a glance: year-wise flows, modes of transfer, top counterparties, and the case fund-flow and counterparty network.
  • Case Actionable Report. The case in one report: red flags by severity, mule and pass-through accounts, exit channels, linked accounts and statements to call for next, with annexures for the charge sheet.
  • Account Profile Report. One profile per account: red flags raised, top credits and debits, connected accounts and exit points.
  • Consolidated / Year Wise Fundflow. Money in and out across every account, the counterparties they share, and year-wise movement and balances.
  • Trend Analysis Report. Monthly, quarterly and yearly patterns, with spikes, drops and new counterparties flagged.
  • Overall Financial Analysis. Totals, net flow and closing balances for every account in the case.
  • MIS Activity Report. Statement coverage for every account, with missing months flagged so the gaps can be called for.
How long does it take?

Within two working days for 95% of cases, counted from receipt of the complete set of statements.

Why is the first report marked DRAFT?

Reports are first issued as a watermarked draft so you can review them and ask for further analysis or corrections. When you confirm, the final reports and the invoice are issued.

What if something in the draft does not match my findings?

Reply to the draft email with your questions, or ask for a correction. NFSU answers questions on report content before you confirm.

Can I ask for further analysis or corrections?

Yes. While the report is a draft, reply with what you need: a correction, or further analysis such as a closer look at particular accounts or links. A revised draft comes back for your review. [Turnaround for revisions to be confirmed.]

When should I confirm the report?

When the draft matches your understanding of the case and needs no further changes. Only the confirming officer registered for your unit can reply CONFIRM. On confirmation, the final reports and the invoice are issued.

Does the report prove who owns an account?

No. The reports work from the bank statements: they trace the money trail and where it left the banks. Ownership, KYC and company background are established by the officer’s own enquiry.

Can I see a sample report?

Yes. A sample dossier from a simulated case is available through your nodal officer or the helpdesk. It is clearly labelled as illustrative.

Using the reports in court 3

Can I annex the report to the charge sheet?

Yes. The dossier is prepared to assist the charge sheet, and every figure is traceable to the bank statement it came from.

Who certifies the report, and who appears if a court summons its author?

[Court-support protocol, including the electronic-record certificate and expert support, to be confirmed.]

Does NFSU train officers to present these reports in court?

Yes. NFSU trains and certifies officers in presenting these reports in court. [Training schedule to be confirmed.]

Custody and security 5

Where is my case data kept?

Only in NFSU’s own data centre, in India, under NFSU’s physical custody and security governance. It is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Who can see my case data?

No analyst reads or handles the case record. Technical access is restricted, read-only and logged.

How long is case data kept?

For the period your unit specifies at onboarding, or 90 days after the final reports if none is specified. It is then securely destroyed.

Does the data leave NFSU or India?

No. Case data is processed and held only in NFSU’s data centre in India, and nothing is transferred outside India. iAcuity operates the platform there under restricted, read-only and logged access.

Will our unit or case be named in any publicity?

No. A unit’s name or case material is never used in any publication without that unit’s separate written consent.

Fees and sanction 9

What does it cost?

A fee per case by the number of accounts: ₹50,000 (1 to 10), ₹1,00,000 (11 to 25), ₹1,50,000 (26 to 50), ₹2,00,000 (51 to 100). Above 100 accounts on request.

What does the fee include?

GST, support, training, maintenance and all upgrades. There is no licence fee, nothing to install or host, and no staff to recruit.

Do we need a tender or a GeM purchase?

No. NFSU provides the service government to government. Units sanction a fee for each case, as they would for any expert opinion.

How do we know what a case will cost?

Count the bank accounts in the case. The fee follows directly from the schedule, so you know the cost before you send.

How are the accounts counted for the fee?

Each bank account whose statement is sent counts once, whatever the period, number of files or banks. A joint account counts once. Accounts that appear only as counterparties are not counted.

Does anything need approval before a case is sent?

Only the unit’s own sanction, as per its normal practice for expert opinion. Because the fee is known from the number of accounts, it can be sanctioned before sending.

When does a fee become payable?

Only when the officer confirms the final report. The final reports and the invoice are issued together.

Can the fee change later?

Only if statements for more accounts are added to the case: the fee is then re-counted on the total and moves up by band if a band is crossed. Otherwise it is fixed by the number of accounts.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Under the State trial agreed with Police Headquarters, three cases nominated by your officers are examined at no cost and with no obligation.

Accounts and invoicing 4

Who raises the invoice, and when?

NFSU raises the invoice in its own name, when the officer confirms the final report. It is issued with the final reports.

Which GSTIN, SAC code and TDS treatment apply?

[NFSU GSTIN, SAC code and TDS / GST-TDS treatment to be confirmed.]

Under which head is the fee booked?

As per the unit’s practice for expert opinion or investigation expenses. The sanction note template has a field for the head of account.

What billing details does NFSU need?

The Drawing and Disbursing Officer’s name and code, the billing address, GSTIN if any, and an email for invoices. These are on the onboarding form.

Onboarding 6

How does a unit come on?

One form and one approval. Most units are live the next working day (90% within one working day).

Who fills the onboarding form?

The head of the unit. The form lists the unit’s official email IDs, its Zero Touch contact and its billing details.

How do we add or remove an email ID?

The head of the unit emails [onboarding email] with the change.

What reports does Police Headquarters receive?

A monthly usage report by unit: cases, accounts and turnaround. [Report template pending.]

Do officers need training, or anything installed?

Nothing to install. All an officer needs is an official email ID; the quick-start card and short videos cover the rest.

Who is our point of contact?

Each district or commissionerate names a Zero Touch contact. Helpdesk: [phone], [email]. NFSU coordinator: [name, designation].

Support 3

How do I reach the helpdesk?

[helpdesk phone] · [helpdesk email] · [hours].

What happens if the service is unavailable?

Availability is 99.5% per month, excluding scheduled maintenance, which is notified 72 hours ahead. A critical issue receives a first response within 2 business hours.

How do I learn to use the service?

The officer quick-start, the how-to videos and the area webinar cover everything an officer needs. NFSU also runs training sessions.
